A weathered Showa-era storefront on Asakusa-dori with the Skytree looming across the road, Shimousaya has fed this Sumida neighborhood since 1930. Inside there are only tables, the long one down the middle shared communally like a counter, and an all-female crew works the kitchen and the floor. The handwritten board leans toward machi-chuka cooking: ramen, yakisoba and fried rice alongside ginger-pork set meals and a nostalgically yellow curry crowned with fried eggs. The signature yakiniku ramen, topped with slabs of ginger-grilled pork, drew fame from a Kodoku no Gurume episode.
