Root house occupies a renovated vacant house in Fukuura, a tiny fishing port in Yugawara near the Manazuru border. The calm, spacious dining room mixes tatami seating with an open terrace overlooking the harbor. Its signature is koso genmai — brown rice cooked in-house and aged for several days with azuki beans — served with koji-fermented side dishes that change weekly. Other local touches include Fukuura-brewed craft beer and hand-picked, caffeine-free olive tea from a Manazuru olive grove, alongside a vegetarian menu, bento delivery, and takeout.
