A bright, retro Americana-style donut counter tucked inside the COMMISSARY NIHONBASHI food hall, with a colorful display case, café-style seating, and a cheerful, foreign-feeling atmosphere that draws crowds for sweet pick-me-ups and birthday surprises. Originally a weekly pop-up, sweetie shop GRANDPA officially opened in September 2023, named for the founders' wish to keep baking until they themselves are grandpas. The kitchen turns out colorful, fluffy yeasted donuts in flavors such as glaze, chocolate, strawberry, honey, pumpkin chai, cinnamon sugar, snow, maple, cassis, green tea and key lime, alongside marshmallow-stuffed chocolate cookies, cherry pie and seasonal sweets. The signature item is a made-to-order Initial Donut decorated with the customer's chosen letters, popular for birthdays and gift occasions.
