Amadoi is a hideaway yakitori counter tucked into a narrow alley of Shinjuku's Golden Gai, with only six counter seats and a late-night, intimate atmosphere. The owner trained at Torikado, a hard-to-book yakitori specialist in Meguro, and grills shamo (a flavorful game-fowl breed) into large-portion skewers such as juicy kashiwa (chicken thigh), hearty tsukune (chicken meatball), and teba-negi (chicken wing with scallion). The counter also serves dashi-simmered oden and sous-vide chicken sashimi, alongside a selection of more than ten types of Japanese sake. Skewers come as fixed courses of 3, 5, or 7 rather than à la carte.
