One of Japan's most photogenic dining experiences: a spacious resort-style seafood restaurant where live pink flamingos roam a glass-walled garden at the center of the dining hall, with tables arranged all around so every guest has a view. The Mehico chain dates to 1970 in Iwaki, Fukushima — "Mehico" is Spanish for Mexico, named after the flamingos the founder saw there. The signature Snow Crab Pilaf, served since day one, is still the must-order: crab-broth rice topped with generous snow crab meat. Family-friendly, spacious, and slightly retro in feel, with a wide menu of crab, oysters, lobster, gratins, steaks, and a kids' selection. Reservations recommended on weekends.
