A historic sakuramochi specialty shop founded in 1717 on the banks of the Sumida River near Chomeiji Temple, credited with inventing the Kanto-style cherry-blossom rice cake. The simple, unadorned shop has a plain wooden facade and a 20-seat interior with no private rooms, reflecting three centuries of unchanged, single-product tradition. The wheat-flour mochi is hand-grilled one sheet at a time, filled with Hokkaido azuki bean paste, and wrapped in salt-pickled Oshima cherry leaves from Matsuzaki, Shizuoka. Sold boxed, in baskets, individually, or enjoyed on the spot with a cup of green tea.
