Housed in a converted Edo-period inn along the old Koshu Kaido post road, this rustic shop has been hand-crafting traditional wagashi since 1902 and is the birthplace of the now-famous mizu shingen mochi ("raindrop cake"). The nostalgic wooden storefront and townscape create a calm, old-Japan atmosphere that regulars describe as a place to pause during a journey. Confections are made with natural spring water from the Southern Alps, locally grown Yamanashi mochi rice and soybeans, using no preservatives or artificial additives. The signature item is shingen mochi (soft rice cake with kinako soybean flour and kuromitsu brown sugar syrup), alongside the delicate summer-only mizu shingen mochi and seasonal wagashi. A small in-store eating area lets visitors taste sweets on the spot in addition to takeout.
