Kawatoyo is a century-old eel specialty restaurant on the Narita-san Omotesando approach, housed in a building recognized as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Founded in 1910 as a river-fish wholesaler and established as a dedicated unagi restaurant in 1967, it lets diners watch craftsmen split, skewer, steam, and grill live eel right at the storefront. The two-story dining room seats guests on both floors and is entirely non-smoking. The signature dish is unaju (grilled eel over rice), glazed with a secret sauce continuously replenished since the shop opened.
