il tram is a cozy, single-owner Italian bistro tucked into the quiet backstreets of Fukagawa, a short walk from the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art. Named after the Italian word for streetcar, the tiny 12-seat space (counter and table) has been run by owner-chef Ryosuke Kawabe since 2013, serving a seasonal omakase course built around fresh fish and homemade focaccia. Rather than a printed wine list, around 30 rotating natural wines from Italy, France and Spain are poured by the glass or bottle. A stylish, relaxing hideout well suited to couples and small groups of friends or family.
