Ruby Room
Tokyo, Shibuya
Ruby Room is a compact DJ bar, nightclub and live music venue tucked into Shibuya's Dogenzaka district, just three minutes from the Hachiko exit. Open since 2002 and a fixture of Tokyo's indie music scene for over 20 years, the small room (capacity around 150) has hosted acts ranging from local singer-songwriters to international names like Basement Jaxx and Belle & Sebastian. The vibe is intimate and unpolished — a dance floor, a cozy indoor smoking booth, and a mixed crowd of locals and foreigners drawn by the eclectic live music, DJ sets, and long-running Tuesday open mic night. Drinks are simple bar fare (beer, shots, cocktails, wine) at reasonable prices; food is limited to snacks. Staff are friendly and English-speaking, making it an easy spot for non-Japanese speakers to drop in.
